    Silicon Biosystems SpA Completes a Second Round of Financing
    Silicon Biosystems SpA announced it has completed a second round of financing of €5,5 million. The Business Angels which supported the company in its first round tripled their bet in the company, joined by an additional investment from venture capital fund Innogest Sgr.
    This second round of funding will provide additional working capital to carry out the clinical validation for selected diagnostic applications and further exploit the technology potential across different application fields.

    Silicon Biosystems headquarters moved to a new location
    Silicon Biosystems SpA announced that it has moved its headquarters to a new location in Bologna. The building, located in via dei Lapidari 12, will significantly increase company’s laboratory and office space. In particular the facility features two laboratories for electronic and biological research.

    Silicon Biosystems SpA Completes its First Round Fundraising.
    Silicon Biosystems SpA announced it has raised €1,5 million in a round of financing supported by a group of Business Angels. One of the investors is Rolando Polli (ex managing director of McKinsey & Co for Italy and Spain), which has joined the Company’s Board of Directors. This first round funding will provide additional working capitals to develop the technology of its proprietary platform through initial commercialization on the research market and pre-clinical validation phase for selected applications.

    Silicon Biosystems SpA Names Giuseppe Giorgini to Serve as CEO and President.
    Silicon Biosystems SpA today announced that Giuseppe Giorgini has joined the company as chief executive officer and president. Since 1979 Giorgini has held several roles in marketing and general management, working for leading domestic and international pharmaceutical companies, as well as starting up the Italian subsidiaries for Amgen and Fournier. He was Managing Director at Amgen Italy until December 2005 and he is currently serving as Vice President of Assobiotech. For more than 12 years he was active within the pharmaceutical trade association (Farmindustria) where he was a member of the Council and Chairman of the Biotech Group until December 2005. Nicolò Manaresi, cofounder and former CEO of the company will continue to serve as Chief Technology Officer. Nicolò Manaresi said “we are delighted to have Giuseppe on board. We believe his strong experience and network will be key for Silicon Biosystems in the transition from a pioneering research-based company to a market-oriented company”. Giuseppe Giorgini declared: “I am thrilled by the possibilities offered by such a transversal technology as Silicon Biosystems has developed, to address a number of unmet medical needs to the benefit of patients, with new diagnostics and therapies”.

    Silicon Biosystems announces the beginning of European Research Project MeDICS
    Silicon Biosystems is the Coordinator of European Research Project Microelectronic Devices for Individual Cell Sorting (MeDICS). The two-years project (worth 2Meuros) is co-financed by the European Community under the 5th Framework Programme, and will be carried out in partnership with the Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale(F), with LETI and DSV laboratories of the Commissariat à l'Énergie Atomique (F), and the Advanced Research Center on Electronic Systems of the University of Bologna (I). The goal of the project is to develop a prototype lab-on-a-chip, based on Silicon Biosytems technology, and to assess its impact to cell-sorting of rare-cells from small samples.

    Silicon Biosystems team wins University of Bologna business-plan competition
    Silicon Biosystems team has won the first edition of StartCup the business-plan competition of the University of Bologna. The competition lasted 10 months, with 286 entries, and involved more than 800 participants from all schools of the University of Bologna.
